First crusade branding
In November of 1095, Pope Urban II went before the Council of Clermont in Auvergne, France and preached the First Crusade. Urban hoped to gather enough support to assist the Byzantine empire in their fight against the Seljuk Turks. He also sought to conquer Jerusalem from the Islamic forces. More than a tactical plan, the call is an emotional petition, prioritizing sentiment and promises of wealth in order to an effort to gather widespread support. The original logo and branding featured above makes use of Urban’s symbolically rich imagery in order to offer a visual representation of the call.
