When I was younger, I told my mom that I wanted to be an ‘arteologist’ when I grew up. It was a job only a kid could have thought up: the unique combination of an archeologist and an artist. At the time, we both weren’t quite sure what that would look like in practice, but I knew that I wanted to ‘find stuff and paint it.’
Years later, as a historian and designer, I’m still on a mission to do exactly that—to seek out the mundane, forgotten, and looked-over in the human experience and turn it into something beautiful and relevant.
My background in history has given me the ability to tell stories with words, but I believe that artistic works can give these stories an incredible depth of meaning and facilitate empathetic connections. My work aims to combine the intellectual and artistic in order to pay tribute to the extraordinary stories of ordinary people—past, present, and future.
